sounds like 1st gear is going out if it sounds like when you slow down that it has problems getting into 1st gear and it stays at 1000 rpms then the bands on that gear could be shot it will need a rebuild or new a rebuild would be about $1800 and new about $2300 and a junkyard is about 600 - 1000
