Help with an exotic grout line approach?

I am a first time home-buyer, and I have a few ideas. I have been reading, and nobody feels confident about laying tile without grout lines. I want a solid look, like banks or museums have, and I thought that laying granite tiles without grout might more or less accomplish that. I realize that they may be uneven and not line up and have gaps and whatnot, but check this: how about laying them as close to perfect as possible (with or without adhesive), then spreading a clear coating a few mm's thick over it, like some sort of resin or epoxy or something? Has anyone thought or done this, or am I just dreaming too big?
